Writing: "Give an overview of the main trends in your first paragraph."
Every part of the test, the way it's set
Each section follows the exam: the same parts, question types and timings.
Listening
Four recordings, forty questions, about thirty minutes. You hear each recording once.
About Listening →Reading
Three long passages, forty questions, sixty minutes - texts from books, journals, magazines and newspapers.
About Reading →Writing
Two tasks in sixty minutes: a report on visual information, and an essay.
About Writing →Speaking
A conversation in three parts, 11 to 14 minutes, from familiar topics to more abstract discussion.
About Speaking →Academic or General Training
Listening and Speaking are the same for both. Reading and Writing differ - pick yours once and your practice follows it.
IELTS Academic
For university study and professional registration. Its Reading uses longer texts from books, journals and newspapers, and Writing Task 1 asks you to describe a graph, table, chart, map or process.
- Undergraduate and postgraduate study in an English-speaking country
- Professional registration, where the body asks for Academic (many medical and nursing boards do)
IELTS General Training
For migration, work and training. Its Reading starts with everyday notices and workplace documents before one longer text, and Writing Task 1 is a letter.
- Migration - Australia, Canada and New Zealand, among others, ask for it
- Work experience or training programmes
A full mock, or one skill at a time
Sit a full mock - Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking in the exam's order - for an overall band. Or take sectional tests to work on the skill holding you back.
Full mock test
All four sections back to back, with a band for each and an overall band at the end.
Sectional tests
A single Reading passage, a Listening part, a Writing task or a Speaking test - whenever you have half an hour.

Questions, answered
Is it free?
Yes. While we're in early access every feature is free - create an account and start. Paid plans come later; see Pricing.
Are these real IELTS papers?
No. Every test is written by us in the IELTS format - the same parts, question types and timings - so you practise the real thing without using copied papers.
How accurate is the AI band for Writing and Speaking?
It marks against the four official criteria and is a good guide to your level, but it is an estimate, not an official score. A teacher can review it.
Should I take Academic or General Training?
It depends on why you need IELTS: Academic for university and most professional registration, General Training for migration and work. Always check what your university, employer or visa asks for.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. Tests work in the browser on a phone, tablet or computer. For Speaking you need a microphone, and for Listening, headphones help.
